I've tried this with the Type-1-font 'Hypnerotomachia'. If you right-click on the *.pfm file, select 'open' and choose 'install' from the preview window, it gets installed without problems. (For the Type-1 font, you should have the corresponding *.afm, *.inf, *.pfb and *.pfm files in one folder.) Edit: The problem seems to be that even with an installed *.pfm font, all Windows applications (Word, Publisher.) don't show it, recognizing only the *.ttf variant.
Maybe this is by design, given that Adobe abandoned the Type-1 format years ago. However a little research I did turned up the Adobe forum in which they were having the very same issues in XP and in Vista, so it stands to reasosn, its the same with Winodws 7. However its not a Windows 7 problem but more of a video driver issue. When attempting to drag and drop, I receive the same error message as the OP mentioned, and the fonts do not display in my Adobe applications. Does anyone have any additional information they can offer? I have purchased hundreds of fonts in the Type 1 format over the years.
