I'm trying to figure out which rotax engine I have. I don't know what year or make of snowmobile this engine came out of - it's on a go-cart.

I think I remember the guy I bought it from said it was in a Ski - Doo, but that was years ago. A sticker on the pull start says Bombardier. There is a tag on the engine that states the following: Rotax - Werk AG Wells Mot. 1500919 Bore 2X62mm - Stroke 61mm - Displacement 368ccm Made in Austria The engine is a 2 cylinder - 2 stroke - fan cooled, it is pull start with only one Tillotson carb. And has two small black coils.

I believe it was about '85 or '86 when I bought it. I'd like to rebuild it but need to know what exactly it is before I can buy the gasket kits and what not. It looks like about 1980 to me - but not sure - and was discontinued about 1999. If any one knows how to identify the year of this engine I would appreciate the help. Also, would a gasket set have to be the exact year of the engine in order for it to work or would a 1980 year gasket set still work just fine in an engine that's lets say a 1985? Any advise or help is much appreciated. Sorry I can't find any cross reference to year from the engine serial number. You are right in that 1980 was the first year for the 377 engine. It looks like the gasket set is the same through to 1989 and after that it changed to a different number.

Not really being a Skidoo guy I don't know what difference in the gasket set after 1989. I am assuming it is a small change on something but not head gaskets or cylinder base gaskets though.

This is the parts site I was looking at: I also came across this site which shows the 368 cc engine was used into 2001 in a couple of sleds. Thanks for your input retiredpop. Again I had the same conclusion.

After looking at some parts web sites I noticed that the part # for a gasket set for a given model of engine applied to numerous years in a row for that engine. The last digit in that part number changed from an A to B then to C for groups of years that model engine was made. My conclusion was that there were probably some minor changes in those gasket sets for each group of years produced - each part number was the same just the last digit (letter) changed.

That engine was a very good design hence that fact it was made for such a long period of time - if something not broken don't fix it - go with it. Install Mpich2 Windows. I purchased the engine in I think 1985 so I'll go with the part # that ends in an A. Thanks for all the help guys.
